Session 6: The Road to Joy. Redesigning Your Life at Any Age.
Where: Contemporary Office Interiors, 2231 Columbia St., Vancouver, BC
When: Wednesday, March 4th, 2020
6:00PM-8:00PM
Why: Because joy matters and it’s about time we started talking about ways in which we can evoke new paths to joy in work and life.
Details: There is a common misconception that by the age of twenty-five you’re supposed to know exactly what it is you’re meant to do with your life, by thirty you should have solidified your footing in said “calling,” and by forty you should be in your most powerful stride with no regrets (oh yeah, and have fostered a flowering family and social life on the side). The reality is not so simple or straightforward.
As humans we are capable of, and in fact are often instinctually pulled towards reinvention. Most of us rethink our career goals and vision again and again over the span of our lifetime. The same goes for changing our minds about our callings, our purpose, and well, our partners. It may feel uncomfortable, the steps forward uncertain, but the journey is undoubtedly worthwhile and there are moments of joy to be found in the unfolding.
Our sixth session of MentHerShip brings these topical issues to the forefront with the grace and wisdom of a female powerhouse who has been challenged to redefine what she wants in life and work, and has risen to these challenges with grace, and thankfully for us, honesty and humour.
So whether you’re still figuring out what to “do with your life,” considering a huge career pivot, or just a tiny bit annoyed by that little voice in your head that says, “It’s safer to stay where you are,” this MentHerShip session will hold something for you. Including a large glass of wine.
Jen Murtagh has over 18+ years of industry experience in leading the way in corporate and non-profit environments. She has been honoured by the business community in countless ways (Business in Vancouver’s Forty Under 40 Award amongst others). She also happens to be my first fundamental mentor - just ask her about the time I stalked her at a gala when I was a lowly, lost student.
Not to humble brag for her, but she’s earned it. Some of her past roles have included Chief Strategy Officer at BC Women's Health Foundation, CEO at Minerva BC and Executive Director of CKNW Kids Fund. Most importantly, Jen is a relentless connector and champion for community.
While Jen boasts a diverse set of skills, she has maneuvered a winding road to the top of her industry, changed her mind and rerouted her careers more than a handful of times along the way. She is a mother and boss, spiritually awakened and savvy, empathetic and driven. And we can’t wait to take this ride with her on March 4th.
As per usual, there will be snacks, spirits, and Q+A! Tickets are limited and are AVAILABLE HERE.
All proceeds go to One Girl Can charity because it feels good to give.
